Description Worldview refers to the way human beings visualise themselves as part of society, of nature and of the cosmos. These views are largely unconscious but are questioned in times of crisis and by those endowed with a greater degree of conscious inquiry. The practical consequence of a worldview is that it determines our values and actions. If our actions are failing but our worldview prevents us from seeing that is what is happening, we have a crisis that cannot be averted. Our attempts at remediation will just be “more of the same”. Equally, if we can consciously cultivate a worldview more in harmony with the reality of our situation our actions are more likely to be successful and enable us to learn. A failure in worldview is failure to learn.
It is generally difficult to challenge deeply rooted worldviews. People would sooner die (and indeed do die) than make the step to a different view point. We already have many partial solutions to the global challenge but even these are barely implemented or ignored because our prevailing worldviews do not see their significance, even for our own good.
