At the third plenary meeting of IFF we engaged in three 'case encounters'. We asked three different organisations to pose us their most difficult challenge, preferably one that showed up as a paradox, to test the effectiveness of the insights we had gained about how to operate in conditions of complexity.
As part of the preparation for these encounters we developed a number of short pithy statements derived from our work to that point, designed to prompt us to recall our own learning. These 'IFF prompts' proved very effective in opening up new perspectives on familiar material and in prompting better thinking and action appropriate for the conditions of the modern world.
In response to the interest the prompts have aroused we have now manufactured a special set of IFF prompt cards. The special edition echoes the prompts themselves in appropriate images on the back to provide a choice of medium. They now enjoy wide currency and have been used in such diverse locations as the Microsoft UK boardroom and the Scottish Parliament. They are now available in all Learning Centres in Scotland as the result of an initiative from Learn Direct Scotland.
Each edition of Omnipedia –Thinking for Tomorrow contains a ‘prompts’ column explaining the origins of a selection from the prompts and giving examples of the use of their prompting in practice. Back issues of the journal are available for free download for those who wish to explore some of the specific IFF prompts further.
