IFF meetings

IFF6: November 2004, San Francisco, USA

Description

The theme of this meeting, reflecting on IFF’s own experience, is the challenge of sustaining innovative organisations in a world not necessarily set up for such practice. The theme is relevant to IFF itself: IFF is now active in a number of fascinating projects. But how is it to maintain its conceptual energy, its role as an inspiring and inspirational community of learning, while continuing to make its way in a world uneasy with such hybrid, difficult-to-classify organisations?

The session started with a learning journey to a number of organisations living with these dilemmas and went on to consider the implications of this learning and experience for IFF’s future development – project management, financial sustainability, organisational form, governance etc. The conclusion of the meeting reflected a determination not to compromise on the IFF principles that have underpinned our work to date by adopting an 'organisational form of convenience’ before we have exhausted all options to evolve our own ‘integrity’.
