IFF5: December 2003, Arbroath and Dundee, Scotland
Description
IFF Members came together again one year on from the conclusion of the original project. The meeting reviewed the experiences of the intervening year, and in particular progress in attaining the three goals outlined at the end of IFF4. The year had included, for example, interesting work on such varied challenges as Designing Schools for the Future and suicide prevention. IFF Members Max Boisot and Brian Goodwin conducted an insightful dialogue on the theme of Nature, Corporations and the Future. We had published a number of products disseminating our work, including early pilots of the new journal Omnipedia – Thinking for Tomorrow.
The focus of the meeting was on how the IFF itself should continue to work at its learning edge, whilst consolidating its previous work and continuing to converge its insights with practical projects dealing with tough, important, intractable issues. The meeting included a half day session in Dundee which effectively conducted three short case encounters in parallel. Scottish Enterprise and BT; Fife NHS Board; and LearnDirect Scotland each introduced challenging issues in the domains of enterprise, health and learning and IFF facilitated conversations designed to arrive at fresh insights. The session helped IFF learn more about how to combine IFF learning and individuals’ expertise in an effective process intervention.
