IFF4: December 2002, Arbroath, Scotland
Description
This meeting completed the original two-year cycle. As such it was an attempt at synthesis – and so took place in the remote and inspirational setting of Hospitalfield House, Arbroath. Between IFF3 and IFF4 there had been a number of other meetings and events to explore particularly significant aspects of the emerging IFF story. There was a session at BP’s headquarters in London on the subject of Love and Fear and Corporation. There was a workshop in Edinburgh on Story, Metaphor and Complexity; and a joint session with Poiesis and Nesta on The Power of the Arts in an Age of Complexity.
In terms of synthesising our own learning, the results of this fourth meeting are best captured in the work we produced in the months following: notably the little book Ten Things To Do In A Conceptual Emergency and the IFF Stuff CD-Rom which is more praxis-oriented. One of the features of this final meeting was a dinner in Dundee for all those whom we had worked with over the two years in Scotland, at which we asked for feedback on what the IFF had meant for them, what we had brought, what resonated. Some of these comments are recorded in a short document Feedback from Scotland.
The meeting concluded with three commitments:
- to ‘digest the pudding’ of IFF, ie codify and disseminate the learning and insights from our first two years;
- to maintain and develop the projects and practical activities associated with IFF;
- to establish a permanent home for IFF, its thinking and its practice
