IFF2: November 2001, St Andrews and Dundee, Scotland

Description

The second IFF plenary session took place shortly after the terrorist attacks on the United States on 11 September 2001. These events altered the mood of our gathering, deepening the emotional honesty we were willing to expose to each other. Between the first and second meetings the IFF group had turned from experts to learners, and this therefore became one of the most productive and inspirational meetings we have held.

A number of members participated in a special session on the theme of The Enlightened Corporation before IFF2 began. This had emerged as a key theme in the first meeting – to see corporations as part of the solution rather than the scapegoat for the problem. IFF2 proper began with a learning journey to nearby Dundee – a chance for the IFF to experience first hand a city struggling with the transitions we had explored in the abstract at IFF1. This shared, rooted experience proved pivotal in shifting our discussion to a deeper and more relevant level.
