The International Futures Forum was first established as a two-year inquiry spanning four plenary sessions and a variety of other events and activities in 2001-2002. The group continues to meet as a learning community, and in large plenary sessions as often as possible.
These pages give a brief outline of the plenary sessions, relevant papers and reports, and details of other events that have advanced our collective thinking and insight. Detail of our practical project work can be found in the praxis area.
| IFF1: April 2001, St Andrews, Scotland |
Description The International Futures Forum was originally established as a two-year inquiry with generous sponsorship from BP. The members of the IFF were invited to participate in a series of four plenary sessions during 2001 – 2002, and whatever discussion, research and other activities that needed to be pursued between meetings.
There was a good deal of preparation in advance of the first meeting, IFF1. Participants were introduced to the project Prospectus, outlining the vision for the two years and the goal of a ‘second enlightenment’. We invited participants to offer their own thoughts on the state of the world, the nature of the challenges we face and the signs of growth and hope that they could see - their own 'points of departure'. .
From the start of the process a key participant was Tony Beesley, conceptual artist and cartoonist. His cartoons produced during the course of our meetings and discussions and in subsequent plenaries provide an astute running commentary, a different perspective, on our work.
